Glo Germ is a fun, safe teaching tool used to illustrate how easily germs are transferred from surface to individuals and vice-versa. An ultraviolet light is used to show the multitude of places germs are collected and spread. Utilized as a teaching aid, Glo Germ illustrates the importance of washing hands and surfaces to prevent the spread of germs.
Handwashing Training
Shake the bottle of Glo Germ oil well and place a small amount (about a quarter size) into the palm of one hand. Spread over both hands completely as if applying lotion. Make sure you cover hands completely, be sure to get under nails, around cuticles and between fingers. Wipe off excess with paper towel. Do not let oil contact clothing, it may stain clothes. When using the Glo Germ gel, use the same procedure. Place a nickel size amount of gel onto a pad and cover hands completely.
Place hands under UV lame to view “glowing germs” that exist before hand washing. This best works if the room is dark.
Perform the FDA recommended hand washing procedure using soap and warm water. The amount of effort required to remove the simulated germs is equal to that of removing most bacteria.
Again place hands under UV lamp, pay special attention to thumbs, areas around nails and between fingers. The UV lamp will reveal the remaining “germs” as proof of improper hand washing.
Surface Training
Lightly dust a small amount of Glo Germ powder over an entire surface area.
Clean the surface until all visible powder disappears.
Pass the UV lamp over the surface. The remaining traces of powder will glow on the areas that were not washing thoroughly.
